Round 2 of the 2008/9 Derbyshire Junior Squash GP took place at Ilkeston Manor on 19 Oct. 25 U15's entered and yet again the standard of squash played in all the groups was of a very good standard.
In the top group Owen Whitfield took advantage of the absence of Round 1 winner Jack Lewandowski, to take 1st place, winning all 4 of his games 2-0, although Craig Osbourne showed his potential, having moved up 2 group levels, by pushing Owen all the way to finish a creditable 2nd.Luke Turner also performed well to finish 3rd having moved up a group level.
In group B Danny Beesla, in only his second event, won all 4 games 2-0. Joe Woods and Matt Lamin pushed Danny hard all the way, Joe just beating Matt to 2nd place with a tough 2-1 win.
Group C was won by Joel McNab with Alec Hawkins in 2nd place. Special mention in this group goes to Nick Wall for some great squash and for never giving up. He has all the hallmarks of a future champion.
Newcomer Lewis MacKay won all his games in group D but had to beat Harry Tomlinson 2-1 in the deciding game to do so.
In group E Henry Wall repeated his victory in Round 1, winning all his games. Isabel Favell went one better than in round 1 by finishing 2nd.
Although it is early days, 2 players are currently tied for 1st place in the overall GP - Danny Beesla and Henry Wall, both have a max 18 points. They are closely followed by Craig Osbourne and Owen Whitfield on 16.

Derbyshire Junior Squash GP 2008/9 - Round 1 Report
This seasons GP got off to an excellent start with 30 u15's taking part at Brampton Manor. There were lots of new players making up the 6 groups, which is very good news for the future of the event and junior squash in the County.
With continued sponsorship from - Simon Favell Industries Ltd and www.pdhsports.com - all entrants received a free top quality Technifibre t shirt - further prizes will be awarded at the end of the GP series, as well as all group winners and runners up receiving a trophy at each round.
As usual there were some very good and close games throughout the day, particularly Matt Barton's 2-1 victory over Nick Wall (who is only 8 years old, but a real prospect), the battle of the Beesla brother's for the winner of group D, Danny just a bit too strong for Brandon, Max Gilbert winning all his matches in group E without losing a game, as did Jack Lewandowski in group A.
NEXT ROUND - 19 OCTOBER 10am ILKESTON MANOR SQUASH CLUB.
