Derbyshire Junior Grand Prix 2007/8

This seasons Grand Prix for players u 15 on 1 Sept 2007 will take place on the following dates

23 Sept @ Brampton Manor, Chesterfield
21 Oct @ Ilkeston Manor
11 Nov @ Duffield

20 Jan @ LA Fitness, Derby
10 Feb @ Duffield
30 Mar @ Brampton Manor

All events start at 10 am.

Please note that due to the popularity of the event, entries will only be accepted with payment, and there is a limit of 35 places for each event.

The GP is open to players of all abilities and entrants will be in groups of no more than 5 players of similar ability.

Trophies are awarded to the winner and runner up in each group at each event, and there are trophies for the overall GP winner and runner up. With the kind support of our sponsors additional prizes will be awarded at the final event and all entrants will receive a GP t shirt.

2006 / 7 details: 

GRAND PRIX CHAMPION. - a number of players were in with a chance to become the 2006/7 Champion and the outcome was only decided in the last round of matches. Ashley Davies couldn't do anymore than win all his matches and hope the other contenders Adam Turner, Jono Clare, Lee Bryan and Peta Forder didn't do quite so well!! In the end ONLY ONE POINT separated the top 4 players after 6 rounds
 
  1st - ADAM TURNER - 38 points
  2nd - PETA FORDER - 37 points
=3rd - JONO CLARE / ASHLEY DAVIES - 36 POINTS
 
Thanks to the very generous sponsorship of Simon Favell of SIMON FAVELL INDUSTRIES it was possible to reward a number of players who stood out for various reasons. They were as follows

All received a squash racket, as did the GP Champion and Runner Up.
 
The final award was a special presentation to Sarah Lovegrove who came along to all bar one round and scored more matches than it was fair to ask her to, without complaint.
 
Karen and Peter Whitehead, GP organisers for 15 years were special guests and presented the group winners/runners up and the GP champion/runner up with their trophies.
 
In total 59 u15 players entered the Grand Prix, from clubs in Derbyshire, principally Brampton Manor and Duffield, South Yorksshire and Nottingham, making the event a great success and ensuring a supply of junior players for clubs and County teams of the future.

The 6th and final round of the 2006/7 Derbyshire Junior Squash Grand Prix took place on Sunday 25th March @ Brampton Manor, with 33 u15 players in 6 groups.
 
The group winners and runners up were
 
A - Winner - ASHLEY DAVIES - Runner up - JOE HARVEY
B - Winner - ROB ABEL - Runner up - ADAM TURNER
C - Winner - OLIVER TURNER - Runner up - JACK LEWANDOWSKI
D - Winner - CHRIS SHELDON - Runner up - SIOBHAN BAXTER
E - Winner - OLIVER FAVELL - Runner up - MATT LAMIN
F - Winner - BEN HARVEY - Runner up - PETA FORDER
 
Group C was the most closely contested with 3 players finishing on 10 points, the final order having to be resolved on the basis of the number of points won on the day.
 
Group B contained the 2 players who, at the start of the day were tied for 1st place in the overall Grand Prix, Adam Turner and Jono Clare.
 
Ashley Davies demonstrated why he is ranked 7th in England at u13 level, winning all 5 of his matches in Group A without losing a single game.
 
Rob Abel, Chris Sheldon, Oliver Favell and Ben Harvey also won all of their matches.
 
As always all those who took part tried their hardest and played their best. Well done to you all.



The 5th round of the pdhsports.com Derbyshire Junior Squash Grand Prix took place at Duffield Squash Club on Sunday 25th Feb, with yet another record entry of 35 juniors and a number having to be turned away due to late entry.
There were a number of very close groups and 2 groups, C and D could only be split by working out the final order on points won during each match!
Performance of the day came in Group C, from Jono Clare who's victory in the Group lifted him from 5th overall at the start of the days play, to joint 1st with Adam Turner.Surprise of the day was Danny Rhodes victory over Ashley Davies which prevented Ashley winning all his matches in Group A. Congratulations also go to Isabell Favell who secured her first trophy of the Grand Prix with a good performance in Group G.
Demonstrating the continued popularity of the event were the 9 debutants, one of whom Owen Whitfield, won his group.

The 4th Round took place at Dragons (Derby) on Sunday 21st Jan, with a record entry of 35.

Round 3 of the pdhsports.com Derbyshire Junior Squash Grand Prix took place o at Duffield on the 10 th December with another good turnout. 26 juniors played in 5 groups all playing 4 or 5 matches. Another batch of new players added to the competition with Tom Whitfield in his first event winning all 4 matches in group D. Other star performers were Robert Abel in a combined groupA/B, Oliver Favell in group E and Peta Forder in group F, who won all their matches. Match of the day was the final match in group F , Roscoe Forder-McGee just pipping Matt Barton 10-9 in the third.

Sunday 12 November 2006 Junior Squash Grand Prix - Ilkeston Manor
The second round of the pdhsports.com Derbyshire Junior Squash Grand Prix, took place at Ilkeston Manor on Sunday 12th November, with an increased turn out of 31 players in 6 groups. New players from clubs in Nottingham, Burton and Doncaster battled it out with regular players from Derbyshire clubs. The group winners and runners up were
Group A - Ashley Davies / Joe Harvey
Group B - George Unwin / Robert Abel
Group C - James Peach / Jono Clare
Group D - Emily Peach / Thomas Baines
Group E - Lee Bryant / Mellissa Elliot
Group F - Peta Forder / Roscoe Forder-McGee.
In Group A, Ashley Davies demonstrated his ability by not losing a game, as did James Peach in B, Lee Bryant in E and Peta Forder in F.
There were a number of close matches, none more so than George Unwin defeating Robert Abel 10-9 in the third game , Oliver Turner winning 9-8 against Sam Nightingale in the 3rd game and the match of the day in GroupF, Isobel Favell defeating Marcus Reading 13-15, 17-16, 15-11.
Special mention must be made of Ruby Shorrock, who not only marked a considerable number of matches, but also played back to back matches to ensure the event finished on time.

Sunday 17 September 2006 Junior Squash Grand Prix - Brampton Manor

The first round of the Grand Prix was held at Brampton Manor on Sunday 17
Sept. 28 players in 6 groups got the 2006/7 event off to a great start. There
were some very good matches. particularly Joe Harvey's 2-1 win over Jon
Lovegrove in Group A and, in the final match of the day, Ben Harvey winning 10-8 in
the 3rd game against Oliver Favell. Group B proved to be the most keenly
contested, with Alex Wilson, Wilf Shorrock and Thomas Turner having to play off
for the final positions.
